Having a Pen Friend, Why Not?

morning, everybody! Welcome to my presentation today. Now I’m going to cover
the topic about pen friend or pen-pal. That’s “BENEFITS OF HAVING A PEN FRIEND”. I’ll not waste your time more.
Let’s get started! ^^
I.
INTRODUCTION:
To
start with my presentation, I will show you some pictures. Do you feel familiar
or strange with these pictures? It’s all about hand-written letters. It’s the
original and traditional way people have used to keep in touch with each other.
Also, in this way people make friends with those who they have never met
before. Nowadays, with the proliferation of social media, people consider other
kinds of communications, such as E-mail. Therefore, sending hand-written
letters becomes less popular and favorite. However, I am one of those who still
write letters and send to friends as an indispensable part in daily life. And
now I would like to mention about its benefits: How would it be great if each
of us has at least one pen-pal? This presentation is to help you find out more
advantages of having a pen friend and I hope that my presentation may inspire
you to make more friends in a traditional way, instead of using modern ways.
II.
MAIN BODY:
The body will be divided into 3 parts:
1. Surprising
yourself
2. Enriching your
knowledge
3. Discovering your
hidden talents
Firstly,
I’ll begin by the first benefit of having a pen friend: Surprising yourself. Let me start with a real story that you might
not know. This is Nona, and Alice. They have a 72-year friendship via
handwritten letters. 45 years later, they first met up with each other.
Surprisingly, now they still correspond by letters every two weeks although
they have other quicker ways to communicate. So, attempt to have a pen friend
and, who knows, you may have a long-term friendship than you have expected.
Besides, it would be much more interesting for us to have a hidden-face-friend.
Right, the friend that we may not know their appearance, or we don’t have
change to meet them everyday. Also, they can live thousands of miles away from
you. And we keep in touch with each other by letters, not by video calls, phone
calls or via social network, therefore, we express thoughts and feeling by
words. Lastly, a gift, postcard, or some pictures enclose with the letters
would be so amazing. Those gifts are extremely invaluable because it comes from
a warm-hearted friend who loves you so much. Surprising things will make your
life more colorful and meaningful as well as add a bit of fun to your life.
Let’s
look now at the second point of this topic:
Enriching your knowledge
Generally
speaking, having a pen friend is a good way for us to get wide area of
knowledge more comprehensively. Firstly, when you want to practice a foreign
language in a non-chat format, it helps you to develop your language skills,
not only your mother tongue but also foreign languages. You see, foreign
languages, such as English, allow you to make friends with people all around
the world. However, if you are not influent in any foreign languages, this is a
valuable opportunity for you to improve that language by writing. Needless to
worry because you have time to prepare and make it perfect. You just think about what words you will send
to your pen-pal and then express it. So, we have an efficient way to improve
foreign language. Next, one more great advantage is that you can have a better
understanding of culture. You will discover more about the lifestyle and custom
of people in the place where your pen friend is in. And you can do the same
with your pen-pal. Telling them about the culture in your place and compare all
the differences. We may feel a greater sense of satisfaction when sharing that.
Finally, travelling is not the unique way to widen your worldview. You can open your mind when going deeply into
a topic with your friend. The topic may be about history events, or book
review, or even global issues and so on. Your knowledge would be accumulated
day by day.
Now we’ll move on to the last point: Discovering your hidden talents
Like many other people, discovering what our talents are can
be extremely hard to figure out. However, having a pen friend can help you to
realize your natural talents. First at all, you’re not only a good reader but
also a good writer. You’re so excellent that your pen-pal have to say that:
“Wow, my dear, you absolutely can keep writing and become a freelance writer.” Once putting your pen to paper, you
have no intention of stopping writing. Next, let me talk about another one. Drawing, yes, sound
great! You can see that some people choose to decorate the letters by drawing
something eye-catching like this, or, beautiful hand-made envelopes. Actually,
it doesn’t only show how great is you in art and how you develop your idea but
also your true talent. Finally, some trivial talents you
can’t realize but your pen friend can. And then your pen friend encourage you
in developing your talents. For example, you can sing very well. In daily life,
you don’t show off it because you may not feel self-confident. You just record
your voice and send to your pen friend as a way to express your emotion.
Happily, your pen friend loves it so much and inspire you to develop it more.
III.
CONCLUSION:
So
let me summarize what I’ve said. I have represented about three main benefits
of having a pen friend from my personal point of view. Although some people
suppose writing letters as a time and money consuming way of keeping in
touch, having a pen friend means that
you have change to experience surprising things in life, enrich your knowledge,
and, find your hidden talents. Actually, well worth the wait. In conclusion,
there is something completely different from normal friends that you should
enjoy at least once in your entire life. With hand-written letters, words are
not the same compared with text or email.

ending my presentation, I’ll give you a fact relating to this topic. April is National Card & Letter Writing Month.
